It's so cold in the D'

When it comes to winter in Michigan, some people get excited about hitting the ski slopes, making snow angels, sitting by a romantic fireplace watching the snow fall, or any other activity that disguises our true feelings about how we feel about the weather...pure hatred(well, at least me). The thought of scraping my windshield at seven in the morning, nearly breaking my back shoveling snow from underneath my tires just to get the car moving two feet, and driving 20 MPH on the express way to avoid spinning out is pure torture. Did I mention how I can barely wear half the open-toe shoes in my closet because of this?!

Even though the season is holding me back from putting some of my favorite clothing items on display, there are still a few key essential winter pieces you and I can still sport to help make these next three months suck less.
winter essentials

1-A bold statement jacket to dress up any outfit
2-Dark denim skinny jeans to be worn with snow boots by day and high heels by night
3-A leather boot (I even love dressing these up in the fall with a dainty dress)
4-An over-sized knit sweater for those unbearably cold days
5-An umbrella (because every true Michigander knows it still rains in January)
6-This one's a given, people...hand gloves are a must
7-A fur Kosak hat that can be used to help keep your head warm while still looking faboosh
8-Fur stoles work miracles to glam up just about any outfit

Thrift Store Finds of Mine

I am and always have been a firm believer in that one doesn't have to spend a ton of money on clothes to look fabulous. It's sad to say, but ever since I started hitting up thrift stores, a $17.80 top at Forever 21 seems pricey to me. During my journeys down the aisles of some of my favorite vintage and thrift stores, I've inherited a collection of treasures that can't be compared to those in the windows of stores at the mall.
Two of the most "get it girl" skirts in my closet

The "I'm not getting hit on tonight" tops

“I believe that life is a prize, but to live doesn’t mean you’re alive.”

Nikki Minaj couldn’t have said it better. In just twenty-three years of existence, I’ve been lucky enough blessed to have experienced some life-changing moments. Here’s a look back at just a few.

The seven months I spent working in the happiest place on earth as a character performer

Winning the 2010 Miss Autorama' title
Placing in the top ten of student journalists in the country in the mtvU Oscar Correspondent Contest with one of my best buds

"She went around with the attitude that she would rather be beaten to death than take any shit."

I’m what some people call a “movie buff.” Some may call it sad, obsessive, or just downright insane, but I find pride in the fact that I can recall any movie quote at the drop of a hat. On the topic of movies, I went to go see David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” last night. Oh. My. God. It was dark, disturbing, and confusing as all hell, but I have to say I loved it.

The lead female heroine Lisbeth Salander (played by Rooney Mara), was just as awkward and inverted as can be. Not only was her darkness showcased by her dialogue, actions (she had quite a steady hand with a tattoo gun), but also by her piercings, tattoos, and wardrobe.

While most people in the theatre cringed at the sight of her, I was busy admiring her pretty bad ass wardrobe. Not all women can pull off a mohawk, cut off tee, and combat boots the way she did. Here’s a few key pieces in replicating this very infamous wardrobe.
